Instructions

  1. Prepare Pizza Dough

    • In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.
    • In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
    • Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture, and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  2. Prepare Tomato Sauce

    • Heat olive oil in a saucepan, then add crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Set aside to cool.
  3. Assemble the Calzones

    • Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F).
    • Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll them into circles, about 20 cm (8 inches) in diameter.
    • On one half of each dough circle, spread a spoonful of tomato sauce, leaving a border around the edge.
    • Add a portion of mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, and sprinkle with oregano and garlic powder.
    • Fold the other half of the dough over the fillings, creating a half-moon shape. Seal the edges by crimping or folding them over and pressing with a fork.
  4. Bake the Calzones

    • Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Brush the tops with a little olive oil for a golden crust.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  5. Serve

    • Let the calzones cool for a few minutes, then serve with extra tomato sauce for dipping.

Note

  • You can customise the filling with your favorite ingredients, such as ham, spinach, or different types of cheese.
  • Make sure to seal the edges of the calzones properly to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
Potential Allergies:
  • Gluten in the pizza dough.
  • Dairy in the cheeses.
  • Nuts or soy in certain pesto or Alfredo sauces.
