Instructions
-
Prepare Pizza Dough
- In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture, and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
-
Prepare Tomato Sauce
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan, then add crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Set aside to cool.
-
Assemble the Calzones
- Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F).
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll them into circles, about 20 cm (8 inches) in diameter.
- On one half of each dough circle, spread a spoonful of tomato sauce, leaving a border around the edge.
- Add a portion of mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, and sprinkle with oregano and garlic powder.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the fillings, creating a half-moon shape. Seal the edges by crimping or folding them over and pressing with a fork.
-
Bake the Calzones
- Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops with a little olive oil for a golden crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
-
Serve
- Let the calzones cool for a few minutes, then serve with extra tomato sauce for dipping.
Note
- You can customise the filling with your favorite ingredients, such as ham, spinach, or different types of cheese.
- Make sure to seal the edges of the calzones properly to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
Potential Allergies:
- Gluten in the pizza dough.
