Instructions
1
Prepare Pizza Dough
In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.
In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture, and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
2
Prepare Tomato Sauce
Heat olive oil in a saucepan, then add crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Set aside to cool.
3
Assemble the Calzones
Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F).
Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll them into circles, about 20 cm (8 inches) in diameter.
On one half of each dough circle, spread a spoonful of tomato sauce, leaving a border around the edge.
Add a portion of mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, and sprinkle with oregano and garlic powder.
Fold the other half of the dough over the fillings, creating a half-moon shape. Seal the edges by crimping or folding them over and pressing with a fork.
4
Bake the Calzones
Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the tops with a little olive oil for a golden crust.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
5
Serve
Let the calzones cool for a few minutes, then serve with extra tomato sauce for dipping.
Note
You can customise the filling with your favorite ingredients, such as ham, spinach, or different types of cheese.
Make sure to seal the edges of the calzones properly to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
